6 Casual Summer Staples I’m Wearing to Beat the Heat

Sydne Style rounds up a summer shopping guide for casual summer outfits in a heatwave1. White tee 2. Denim shorts 3. White dress 4. Leather sandals 5. Straw bag 6. Tank dress 7. White shorts 8. Button-down shirt

With last week’s heatwave and warm weather still on the horizon, I’ve been living in the same outfits to keep cool. Here are my six casual summer staples:

Denim Shorts

I find myself wearing denim shorts every day. I slip them on in the morning to walk Jack Jack and wear them over bathing suits on the way to the beach. I have two current faves in heavy rotation: AGolde vintage cutoff shorts and L’Agence white denim shorts. I like both for the same reasons. They have a higher rise and are a bit longer in back, which is perfect for my larger booty.

White Tees

I stock up on inexpensive white tees from Forever 21. I don’t see the point of spending too much if I’m going to be sweating so much. I love their slub knit tees because they’re super lightweight (and only $4!) and I also have been wearing their knotted crop tees.

Short Sleeve White button-downs

When I want an elevated version of my white tees, I’ll pair my shorts with a short sleeve white button down. My current favorite is a Bella Dahl cap sleeve button down.  It allows so much air to come through when I leave it half tucked.

Lightweight Dresses

I’ve been revisiting old dresses recently, from maxis to airy midis. Since they’re no longer available online I found some other options. I have a similar stripe tank dress that I throw on with flats during the day and heels at night. I also rotate between a few different white cotton dresses to keep cool from off the shoulder styles to breezy, gauzy dresses.

Straw Circle Bags

I’m a firm believer that when you love an item, it’s ok to buy it multiple colors. I started with Ellen & James round basket bag in natural then added black and, most recently, white. They weigh almost nothing, which I appreciate when it’s hot and I don’t feel like having something heavy on my shoulders.

Comfy Flat Sandals

Thongs often hurt my feet when it’s super hot outside (I usually get a blister between my toes). So instead I’ll slip into a comfy flat slide. My go-to this summer have been Jack Rogers leather sandal. I’ve also been wearing these jellies when I’m headed to a beach or pool.
